Botulinum toxin application
Botulinum toxin is used to correct mimic wrinkles, to rejuvenate or reduce excessive sweating, so-called hyperhidrosis.
Medical aspects of the intervention
Botulinum toxin is a chemical stored in the region of the connection between the nerves and muscles, where it prevents nerve-induced muscle activation. The muscle does not contract and does not form a wrinkle. Unfortunately, this effect is temporary and muscle activity is restored due to nerve regeneration. The substance is effective for the treatment of wrinkles created by the movement of mimic muscles – it is very suitable for forehead wrinkles and the root of the nose.
The application is suitable in conditions where wrinkles are not completely formed or if we want to alleviate and delay these signs of ageing. Botulinum toxin can be applied at the first signs of skin wrinkling in areas where unsatisfactory wrinkles form most often. This primarily includes the area of the forehead, the root of the nose and the outer corners of the eyes. It is used exceptionally in other locations.
The effect of this treatment decreases with decreasing skin elasticity.
Form of intervention
Botulinum toxin administration is performed on an outpatient basis.
You will sit during the procedure.
The physician will use a thin needle to administer the exact amount of the substance in several points to small muscles moving the skin in the area we want to treat. The sensations are similar to normal injection administration.
The time required for the treatment is about 15 minutes.
After the procedure
Traces of the injection and a slight redness that disappears within a few hours.
The desired effect develops within 2-3 weeks and lasts for several months.
Repeated administrations substantially prolong the effect.
Sweating begins to subside after about 3-14 days. If the result is not fully satisfactory, the application can be repeated at the earliest after about 6 weeks.
It is necessary to adhere to the following rules after the application
The application site should be iced.
We recommend that you use facial expressions of the treated area in the maximal possible extent for at least 4 hours.
The treated area must not be massaged for at least 4 hours and must not be touched.
Do not lie down for longer periods, do not bend forward for a longer period of time for 4 hours. Avoid physical exertion for the next 2 days.
Any cosmetic massage sessions should be delayed by at least 2 weeks.
If you suffer from excessive sweating, your doctor will apply botulinum toxin directly to the area of the sweat glands in the necessary region. Avoid massaging the treated area after the application and exercising for the next 2 days.
