Lip augmentation
Who is the procedure suitable for?
For all those who wish to emphasise their lips, the natural dominance of the face.
For all those whose lips get narrower with age and lose their fullness.
Medical aspects of the intervention
The procedure will enlarge or shape the lips. Lip filling with synthetic material or the patient’s fat cells (lipofilling) is currently probably the most common approach.
The so-called V-Y plastic is also used, where the lip is enlarged via cuts on its inner side.
Form of intervention
The procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia, less often under general anaesthesia.
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis.
If hospitalisation is necessary, it is 1 day at most.
Method and course of procedure
Synthetic hyaluronic acid-based material is injected into the lip with a syringe. This method is very fast, safe and minimally painful. The material is gradually resorbed, its effect lasts 4-24 months depending on the type of the product. If the patient's subcutaneous fat is used (so-called lipofilling), the surgeon collects the material using a thin cannula and applies it to the lip after special preparation of the removed tissue.
The method that permanently enlarges the lip is called "V-Y shift". Several incisions are made in this method on the inside of the lip. After suturing, the visible part of the red lip gets larger, giving the lip a fuller impression. To achieve the full effect, this type of procedure must usually be performed in two steps, at approximately three-month intervals. The procedure leaves fine scars on the inside of the lip where they are not visible.
Postoperative course and recommendations
No postoperative care after the administration of absorbable material is necessary.
The oedema of the lip after V-Y shift usually subsides within three weeks. Scars are initially stiffer. With proper care, they mature within a few months. Cooling dressing and rinsing of the oral cavity with chamomile tea are recommended. Minor oedema may persist for several months. Lip sensitivity may be altered in the postoperative period.
Price calculation
This procedure is not covered by health insurance
The total price of the procedure is given by the sum of the price for the procedure itself, the price for general/local anaesthesia and the price for hospitalisation according to its length, and possibly the price for synthetic material, if used – see the price list.
This procedure is performed in our facility by all plastic surgeons.
