REZUM
Rezum - steam therapy is a gentle, minimally invasive procedure that helps patients with enlarged prostates relieve the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
What is BPH?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the enlargement of the prostate gland, which affects about 50% of men in their 60s and up to 95% of men aged 85.1 An enlarged prostate can press on the urethra, reducing or completely stopping the flow of urine from the bladder.
Symptoms of BPH include:
Frequent urination
Uneven flow
Urgency
Weak flow
Strenuous urination
Urinary retention
Steam therapy uses the natural energy of water vapor.
Clinical trials confirm a positive safety profile as well as real relief of symptoms associated with BPH.2
A single application takes nine seconds. During this time, the water vapor permeates into the confined space of the prostatic tissue, where it subsequently condenses on the cells and changes its state back to liquid. The energy released during condensation is strong enough to kill the affected cells. These dead cells are eventually naturally removed - by healing. The prostate gland will shrink and the pressure on the urethra will be relieved, thus reducing the symptoms of BPH. Most patients experience relief within two weeks. Maximum improvement is usually achieved within three months. However, patient experiences may vary.
The number of steam applications depends on the size of the prostate. All applications are performed during a single appointment in the procedure or operating room.
96 % success rate of the treatment, the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and is minimally invasive
90 % of men in the 50-85 age group have an enlarged prostate, which can cause problems.
