Reduction of skin folds of the arms and thighs
We recommend the procedure to have unsightly excess skin removed.
Skin excess develops with age, when the skin loses its natural elasticity, most often in the area of the arms and inner thighs.
Skin folds even form after significant weight loss.
Medical aspects of the intervention
Skin fold removal is performed surgically; minor or major scars are inevitable.
Form of intervention
The duration of hospitalisation is about 1-4 days, minor procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis.
Method and course of procedure
The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthesia and lasts 1-2 hours. A minor procedure can only be performed under local anaesthesia. There are several modifications, but the principle of the procedure is similar. The surgeon penetrates into the muscle-ligament base from incisions in various locations and orientations (in the armpit, on the inner surface of the arm, in the groin, etc.). Afterwards, this layer and subcutaneous tissue are separated from the base. The loose skin with the subcutaneous tissue is stretched, the excess skin is removed and all wounds are sutured.
Postoperative course and recommendations
Pain medications (analgesics) are given for pain in the postoperative period.
Drains, if used, are most often removed 1-2 days after surgery. After the procedure, it is necessary to wear special elastic underwear. Elastic underwear must be worn for at least 4-8 weeks. Sutures are removed approximately 10-14 days after the surgery. After the wounds have healed, it is necessary to take care of the scars, which must be protected from sunlight for at least 3 months (you will discuss the details with your physician). It is not recommended to do sports for about 4-6 weeks. Wear elastic underwear for a further two months. You will be able to consult your attending physician throughout the postoperative period, who will guide you safely during this period.
